Discover science and tech this half term at Cardiff Met’s free STEM event

19 February 2025

Families across south Wales are invited to attend a full day of free science and tech workshops this half term as part of the Cardiff Science Festival 2025.

On Saturday, 1 March, from 10am to 5pm, Cardiff Metropolitan University will be running a full day of interactive sessions suitable for primary school children, secondary school students and their families. Based on its Llandaff Campus, Cardiff Met’s Science Festival event aims to give children and young people more access to science and tech - for free.

The event will feature 20 workshops, including examining red blood cells under a microscope; learning about genes, antibodies and viruses; make your own DNA bracelet; meet Cardiff School of Technologies’ robot man; and creative coding and cryptography. Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to visit Techniquest’s mobile planetarium for an immersive 360° experience that takes viewers from the depths of the ocean to the spacecrafts orbiting the Earth.

The day is divided into two sessions: Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences will lead workshops from 10am-2pm, followed by an afternoon of tech-focused activities with Cardiff School of Technologies from 2pm-5pm. Each workshop will last between 15-60 minutes dependent on the activity.

The event is part of Cardiff’s annual Science Festival, designed to showcase Cardiff as a hub for science research and world-renowned science communicators. A thriving centre for STEM activity in the Welsh capital and beyond, Cardiff Met will provide an opportunity for families to experience the University’s facilities and meet the renowned STEM academics leading the workshops.
