Cardiff Met Women’s Rugby have been crowned BUCS Super Rugby Milk Championship winners for the first time in history, after a monumental performance against Loughborough in today’s final at Rodney Parade.

In front of a buzzing crowd and with the support of the Cardiff Met community behind them, the team delivered when it mattered most, overcoming one of the strongest sides in the league to write a new chapter in the university’s sporting legacy.

In a thrilling 30-29 victory, Jess Rogers grabbed a try double and kicker Freya Bell had an outstanding game. Cardiff Met centre and vice-captain Sav Picton-Powell won player of the match.

“This is an incredible achievement,” said Gareth Baber, Director of Rugby Systems at Cardiff Met. “To win a BUCS Super Rugby title is a testament to the skill, character, and togetherness of this group. They've been outstanding all season, and today they showed exactly why they deserve to be champions.”

Having already made history by reaching the final for the first time and toppling last year’s champions Hartpury in the semi-final, the team finished the campaign in spectacular fashion with today’s win.

Head Coach Lisa Newton said, “I’m so proud. The team’s commitment, belief, and hunger to keep pushing was unbelievable. We’ve spoken all year about building something meaningful – and this win is proof of what’s possible. It means everything.”

The win marks a defining moment for Cardiff Met Rugby, and for women’s sport at the university – inspiring the next generation and cementing the team’s place at the top of the UK university game.
