Cardiff School of Management students excel in Strategy in Business Day with Aldermore
Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Careers Service has once again teamed up with its partners at Aldermore Banking Group to provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable employability skills. For the third year running, Aldermore hosted its annual ‘Strategy in Business’ workshop, welcoming Cardiff Met and Swansea University students to its graduate insight event. The day included a mix of careers panel discussions, interview tips, individual and group work activity, providing valuable insight into the world of work after graduation.

Speaking at the event, Talent Management Partner at Aldermore Group, Francesca Webster said: “Our partnership with Cardiff Met plays an important role in Aldermore Group’s talent strategy, helping students bridge the gap between education and employment. The students were fantastic – fully engaged, eager to learn, and willing to take on challenges. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting how the experience will support their transition from university to the workplace and increase their interest in a career with Aldermore Group.”
The event took place at Swansea University and addressed how daunting a task transitioning from academia to industry can be for graduates. Students were supported by Cardiff Met’s Careers Service to use their critical thinking skills and knowledge gained during their studies to approach the workshops, enabling them to enhance their employability skills and better prepare for the world of work. By delivering immersive work experiences hosted by our partners, Cardiff Met aims to boost students’ confidence and chances of success when going into graduate assessment centres after leaving higher education.

Rabia Qayenat is currently studying International Business Management at the University’s School of Management and attended Aldermore’s Strategy in Business Day and commented: “This was a great chance to apply strategic thinking to real-life situations while gaining invaluable experience and learning from an engaging panel of experts. One of the most thought-provoking exercises of the day was ‘An exercise in feedback’. The task showed us how peer pressure can cloud our capability or decision-making, at times to the disadvantage of individual potential. This became a crucial learning moment for me, and I will surely take such insights forward in my journey.”
Noting the success of the event, Cardiff Met Careers Team Manager, Ceris Palser added: “This marks the third year of our Strategy in Business Day in collaboration with Swansea University, a partnership that has significantly enhanced student participation. Opportunities like this provide invaluable experience, giving students a realistic taste of the competitive graduate job market. It was fantastic to see their confidence and professionalism shine, a testament to the strong collaboration between academics and careers teams in preparing them for success.”
