Cardiff Met Sport TV Strikes Gold at the National Student Television Awards
Cardiff Met Sport TV has made a stunning debut at the prestigious National Student Television Awards 2025 (NaSTA), bringing home two golds and a bronze.
The NaSTAs are the UK’s leading celebration of student television, attracting entries from top student media outlets across the country. Cardiff Met Sport TV triumphed over long-established names including the universities of Bath, Loughborough, Leeds, Solent, Bournemouth, UEA and more.
The awards saw Cardiff Met’s student content platform win two golds in the sport coverage and post production categories, and a bronze for their live broadcast entry.
- Gold in sport coverage - for its standout BUCS Super Rugby coverage
- Gold in post production - for a moving feature on university photographer Carl Robertson, produced by MSc Sport Broadcast student, Alex Hyman
- Bronze in live broadcast - for a dynamic episode of Up The Archer, incorporating a live football match
These wins mark a huge achievement for Cardiff Met, especially as 2025 is the first year the University joined the National Student Television Association. The awards submission was led by Peter Irvine, a postgraduate Sport Broadcast student who joined Cardiff Met this year after previously heading up Bath Campus TV. Peter now manages the Cardiff Met Sport TV channel and accepted the awards on the night: “I'm very proud of being the first to affiliate MetTV with NaSTA this year, and for leading on our submissions in which all of my fellow course mates on the Sport Broadcast Master's put a lot of effort into compiling.
“It's great that our first time at the annual awards yielded three award wins, and I'm particularly happy that our sport broadcasting work was recognised by judges and leaders in the industry. I know that it means a lot to our course and department here at Cardiff Met.”
Speaking after the awards, Joe Towns, Director of the Sport Broadcast Master’s Programme, said: “This award is great for the profile of Cardiff Met Sport TV. The event is packed with industry execs looking for the next generation of talent and also prospective students interested in our postgraduate Sport Broadcast degree. It’s a brilliant showcase of the talent we have here and the top-tier live sport, athletes and facilities at Cardiff Met.”
