Annual HEURO Managing Mobility Workshop held at Cardiff Met
Cardiff Metropolitan University has this week hosted the annual HEURO Managing Mobility Workshop for the sixth time, welcoming over 80 Higher Education mobility officers from across the UK.
HEURO, an association that provides a platform for all professionals, academic and administrative, are involved in facilitating student mobility to discuss and promote matters of common interest and disseminating good practice.
The Managing Mobility event, held at the Cardiff School of Management, focused on enhancing the student mobility journey at home and abroad, delivering a packed agenda focused on best practices, updates, and new strategies in managing international student mobility.
Guests were invited to discuss a range of topics, including fulfilling duty of care to students abroad, promoting language learning in preparation for studying abroad, and how to ensure disabled students excel whilst studying abroad.
The event also featured a series of talks from Turing Scheme UK, Universities UK International and Student Loans Company, including former leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and Chair of Taith Advisory Board, Kirsty Williams CBE.
Delivering the keynote speech at the event, Kirsty Williams said: 'Wales' commitment to supporting and promoting internationalism and mobility remains a key element of our nation's contract with its young people, with its learners and with its educators. My experience studying abroad was life changing. It broadened my outlook, shaped my values and built my resilience. It made me more tolerant and more empathetic to other people's lived experience.
We've worked hard to develop the Taith programme to ensure it works well for the education sectors across Wales. Our strategy focuses on providing opportunities for those from underrepresented groups and those who face the biggest barriers to participate in international exchange. Since March 2021, we’ve funded over 4,830 mobilities to 88 countries, with 40% of our outbound learners coming from underrepresented groups. With Taith funding, we're creating life-changing impacts.
Cardiff Met is one of Taith's 287 partner organisations delivering a comprehensive mobility programme to its students and providing opportunities for eligible students to study, work and volunteer overseas.
Rowena Kidger, Cardiff Met's Global Opportunities Manager and Vice Chair of HEURO, said: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome over 80 delegates to this year's HEURO Global Managing Mobility workshop. I have hosted the annual workshop since 2016, and this is by far the biggest and most popular workshop to date. I absolutely love what HEURO is about in offering support and guidance in the world of global mobility."
