Staff Overview

Dr Rajan is a Senior Lecturer at School of Technologies - Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff. Prior to this he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wollongong, Australia, a Senior Researcher at UNSW Sydney, Australia and a Project Manager/Research Associate at the Technological University Dublin, Ireland.

He obtained a PhD degree in Engineering from Technological University Dublin, Ireland. He has published over 150 articles in journals, conferences and as book chapters, and two patents are also filed.

He is the editor/author of the books “Optical Fiber Sensors: Advanced Techniques and Applications” and "Structural Health Monitoring of Composite Structures using Fiber Optic Methods", both published by CRC Press. He serves as a technical program committee chair and member of conferences in the area of optical fiber sensors and smart composite materials, editorial board member/associate editor and reviewer of several journals, and assessor for funding applications of the Portugal Science Foundation, Polish Science Foundation and Australian Research Council.

His research and teaching expertise and interests include optical fibre sensors and their engineering applications in biomedical and structural health monitoring fields. He also promotes work integrated learning and  entrepreneurship in undergraduate/postgraduate teaching.
