Overview

Val lectures at a range of levels from foundation, through undergraduate to postgraduate. This represents all of the discipline team’s degrees (BSc Environmental Health & Public Health and MSc Occupational Safety, Health and Wellbeing & Applied Public Health) and the foundation in Health and Social Sciences. She is module leader for subjects ranging from heath sociology & influencing individual and organisational change to risk perception and communication.

Val holds an MSc in Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing, a postgraduate Certificate in Management and is a voting Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

Following a 25 year career in the private sector, 16 of which at management and senior management level, Val took a career-break to return to study and 4 years later emerged with a first class honours degree (with prizes) in Environmental Health. Val never quite left the University, returning to participate in open days as an ambassador for the course and then to teach on the degree as an associate tutor, most years. In September 2016, she joined the team in a full time capacity.
