Overview
Following an undergraduate degree at Oxford University, Sian completed the Teach First programme, gaining her PGCE and Master’s degree from Warwick University. She then spent several years teaching as a primary school teacher in both the Midlands and London, developing a strong interest in Primary Education, teacher development and school improvement.
Sian went on to work for Ark Schools as Network Lead for Primary Professional Development and Deputy Head of Teacher Development, supporting both primary and secondary schools across England. In these roles, she played a key part in shaping professional development initiatives for teachers at different stages of their careers, with a particular focus on mentoring.
In 2021, Sian joined Cardiff Metropolitan University, where she teaches Mathematics, Numeracy, Welsh, and Professional Studies on the PGCE Primary programme. She is also the co-lead of mentoring for the Cardiff Partnership, contributing to the development and implementation of effective mentoring practices within initial teacher education.
Sian’s research interests include mentoring, mathematics and numeracy education, teacher development, and school improvement. She is currently undertaking doctoral study as part of the first cohort of the National EdD, with her research focusing on mentor professional learning.
