Overview
I am a Professor of Sport and Social Theory, and a former Associate Dean of Research (Sport), at the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences, Cardiff Metropolitan University. Principal duties within this latter role included directing and developing the research culture within the School and, in particular, the collective and individual investigative agendas of over 100 academic staff.
During my time as ADR research outputs from Sport academics increased from 65 in 2018-19 to 96 in 2021-22. Similarly, income from research and innovation activities increased from circa 165k in 2018-19 to approximately 500k in 2022-23. This growth was also mirrored in our most recent REF submissions (UoA 24) from 11 staff in 2014 to 42.5 in 2021; an increase of over 300%.
I am currently also a Visiting Professor at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), Sogndal, Norway, having served in a similar capacity at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH), the University of Malaysia, and the University of South ast Norway (USN). I am the General Editor of the Taylor & Francis journal Sports Coaching Review, and a founding Trustee of CRiC (Critical Research in Coaching). Finally, I am a Fellow of both the Academy of Social Sciences and the Higher Education Academy.
