Overview
I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2006 as an Associate Lecturer in BA Broadcast Media and Popular Culture in the Cardiff School of Art & Design, before moving to the Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy as an Associate Lecturer in BA Popular Culture. In 2009 I became a fulltime Lecturer in the School of Education where I developed and designed the BA Media programme. I am currently Subject Leader and Senior Lecturer for Media and Programme Director for MA Specialist Journalism. I am also Enterprise Representative for Humanities within the School of Education and Social Policy.
After graduating from the University of Surrey in BA History and English I worked briefly within Marketing before embarking on a career in Journalism, joining World Trade Magazines in 1995 as an Editorial Assistant. I next moved into my specialism as a Film Journalist as Assistant Editor of British Film and Television Journal and later Editor of Film & TV Production Review, an international trade journal that I regularly represented at international festivals, conferences and exhibition, including: IBC – Amsterdam, MIPTV, MIPCOM, Locations Trade Show – Santa Monica, ShowBiz Expo – New York, Siggraph – Los Angles. While at HHC plc, at the time one of the largest magazine publishing houses in London, I was also the Managing Editor and Deputy Group Editor.
After completing a MA in History of Film and Visual Media at Birkbeck College, University of London I became a freelance journalist, specialising in Film and TV where I wrote and edited for a number of publications, including: Broadcast, The Production Guide, International Locations Guide, Film Review, International Broadcast Engineer, Sights and Sounds, Sky Cinema, Widescreen, Emirates Entertainment Guide, International High Flyer, Highstyle, A Year of Football, The Jubilee Trust. I also worked as a Consultant Editor for IBE: International Broadcast Engineer.
After completing my PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training at Cardiff University, I worked for a brief period in the Further Education sector before joining Cardiff University as an Associate Lecturer in the School of Lifelong Learning where I wrote, designed and taught a number of Film modules.
