Overview
Ria is a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and Senior Lecturer. She initially worked full-time as a Speech and Language Therapist for Adults with a Learning Disability within the NHS in different teams in South Wales. She joined the University on a part-time basis in 2011 continuing with NHS work, before joining the University department full-time in 2014. Ria has also completed training to become a Registered Intermediary and she worked with the Ministry of Justice to support vulnerable witnesses in court for several years alongside her University role. She is the current programme director for Bsc. (Hons) Speech & Language Therapy, having previously undertaken the clinical director and admissions tutor roles.
When Ria moved into teaching at Cardiff Met, she undertook her PGC in Teaching in Higher Education and became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In addition to this, Ria was awarded a student-led teaching fellowship for ‘Lecturer of the Year’ for the School of Sport and Health Science in 2021.
Ria is a member of the professional body, RCSLT and the regulating body, HCPC.
