Overview

Luke Hawker is a Lecturer in Sport Coaching in the Cardiff School of Sport. He is also the Director of Performance Hockey. Luke joined the school in 2016 following undergraduate and postgraduate study at Cardiff Met.

Luke specialises in theor y to practice, in particular the development of practice design to facilitate effective teaching, coaching and training programs in sport performance and exercise. A further interest lies with the development of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary athlete support teams. His interest in this subject has developed from the progression towards his current status as Captain of Wales Senior Mens Hockey team which attended the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and competes bi-annual European Championships and World League competitions.

Alongside performance he is a Head Coach, Mentor, Coach Educator and Assessor. The combination of experience enables the dissemination of complex theoretical concepts from varied perspectives, creativity in curriculum design and development of employability skills achieved through work experience.

Luke is currently undertaking a PgCTHE which includes teaching interventions focussed around the use of Virtual Learning Environments and Performance Analysis technology for coach education with the objective of informing subsequent curriculum design and coach education practices. He intends to progress towards a Professional Doctorate and continue to integrate NGB Coach Education courses into the curriculum.
