Overview

Kin Yu is a Principal Lecturer in the Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy. She lectures on the PGCE Secondary Chemistry with Science programme as well as contributing to the Science element of the PGCE Biology and Physics with Science programmes.

Kin has taught for 10 years in secondary schools in Wales, initially as a Science teacher and then head of Chemistry and GNVQ Science co-ordinator. She joined Cardiff Metropolitan University (then UWIC) in 2000. Whilst at Cardiff Met, she initially lectured on the BA Primary Education, PGCE primary and PGCE secondary programmes before becoming Programme Leader for PGCE Science in 2001. She went on to be the deputy Programme Director for the PGCE secondary programme in 2002, co-ordinating the Initial Professional Development element of the programme before becoming Programme Director for the PGCE secondary programme in 2007, a role which she held until 2012. During this period, she also studied for her MA (Ed) which she completed in 2011.

Kin has been involved in many enterprise projects and is currently the academic representative on the Project Advisory Board for the project 'myPortfolio', which is a website that allows Initial Teacher Education and Training students within the Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy to develop a portfolio of evidence against Qualified Teacher Status Standards.

Kin is currently an Associate Tutor for the Welsh Government's Masters in Educational Practice programme. She is also chair of the Quality Steering Group and the lead Partnership Quality Manager for the South East Wales Centre for Teacher Education and Training (SEWCTET).
