Julia has been teaching at Cardiff Met. since September 2008. Firstly as an Associate Tutor then latterly as a full-time lecturer for the Youth and Community work programmes spanning Widening Access, Foundation and degree levels.

Julia is particularly proud of the work undertaken on behalf of the NSPCC and BAWSO supporting young women to develop an awareness raising campaign on girls rights and harmful traditional practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Entitled Voices over Silence, young women aimed to educate, challenge and ultimately eradicate FGM by initiating conversations with other young people, communities and decision makers.
