Dr Elspeth Dale

Senior Lecturer
Cardiff School of Management

Overview

On graduating Elspeth worked in the international hospitality industry for 15 years gaining vast experiences opening restaurant, bar and late night venue operations in many locations all over the world. She also has managed operations and specialised in training and development of staff both nationally and internationally for industry leading, dynamic, customer focused organisations. On returning to the UK, she gained her PGCE in H.E. and has been a senior lecturer in the Department of Tourism, Hospitality & Events Management for over two decades. She is also year tutor for the ever-expanding MSc ITHM and Events Programme Management.

Elspeth has for many years been Industrial Work Experience coordinator for all Tourism, Hospitality & Events Management students. Part of her responsibilities in this role are liaising with industry employers both locally, nationally, and internationally pre and post the student experience for both undergraduate and post graduate students and forging new links with industry for prospective students. She offers professional academic guidance and support and pastoral care to all THE student cohorts as they endeavour to gain, what she believes is, invaluable employment experience and develop their employability skills.

Elspeth continues to engage with industry on an operational basis specialising in coordinating and delivering outside catering for weddings and corporate events. Annually you will find her in her (posh) wellies delivering VIP hospitality at large cultural events such as The Royal Welsh and The Eisteddfod and also has had priceless experience at large UK music events with regards to safeguarding by conducting the testing and analysis of narcotics and illegal substances seized.

She completed an MBA alongside her PGCE when leaving the industry, with her main area of research in Human Resource Management. She was awarded her PhD three years ago where she explored how multicultural teams are managed in the hospitality industry.

Elspeth also plays a key role in the delivery of short courses in the school for both students and the general public.
