Overview

Ellen is a Senior Lecturer in Sport at Cardiff Metropolitan University and the Programme Director of the BSc (Hons) Sport, Physical Education, and Health degree course.

Having worked within the sport and higher education (HE) sector for over 20 years, Ellen has gained a breadth of professional experience. She worked as a full-time professional tennis coach for 12 years, during which she collaborated with key partners across the sports industry to provide a nationally recognised coaching service. Ellen played a pivotal role in shaping Wales’ performance tennis landscape, holding several national captaincy roles and receiving the Welsh Performance Coach of the Year award in 2011.

During her time in the HE sector, Ellen has held a variety of roles, including module leader, personal tutor, year tutor, and degree programme leader. Within these roles, she has led the development of a progressive, high-quality, and quality-assured academic curriculum. Alongside these academic responsibilities, Ellen has also served as Director of Tennis, where she worked strategically with Cardiff Met Sport and academic colleagues to secure external funding for multiple roles within the university’s contemporary, research-informed, multi-dimensional tennis programme.

Ellen is a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Coach Education Tutor and an LTA Accredited+ Coach. Her research interests focus on gender equality, and she has disseminated her work through renowned podcasts and at international conferences.
