Overview
I graduated from Gwent College of Higher Education in 1991 with a B.Ed (Hons) degree in Primary Education specialising in Mathematics. In 1998 I successfully completed a MSc in Education Management at the University of Glamorgan. I have also achieved the National Professional Qualification for Headship. I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University having been in primary education for thirteen years as both a class teacher and Deputy Head Teacher. I was initially seconded to Cardiff Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics for one year in 2004 and then became a permanent member of staff in 2005, lecturing in both primary Mathematics and Education.
At the beginning of the 2005-2006 academic year, I took up the position of PGCE Primary Programme Director and remained in this position for 11 years. In 2014 I was appointed as a Principal Lecturer and held this position for two years. In September 2017 I became the Programme Director of the BA(Hons) Early Childhood Studies with Early Years Practitioner Status programme. The programme title has now changed to BA(Hons) Early Years Education and Professional Practice with Early Years Practitioner Status (EYPS). I completed my PhD in 2021 which focussed on Key Stage 2 pupils' perceptions of how ICT can help them to learn in primary mathematics. My research interests lie in the areas of primary mathematics, ICT, Early Years Education and diversity, equity and equality.
