Overview
Alex teaches on the BSc Health and Social Care and BSc Sociology and Social Policy programmes, as well as the MRes Social Policy/ Education.
Before coming to Cardiff Metropolitan University, Alex worked as a researcher at the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol, on different health and social care related research projects. Alex has a PhD from Cardiff University which examined men’s mental health, with specific focus on help seeking and coping with distress. In 2021, Alex was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), School for Social Care Research to explore older men’s mental health and use of community support groups.
Alex’s areas of interest are:
- Men’s mental health and masculinities
- Loneliness and isolation
- Community and peer support and health and social care services
- Wellbeing of diverse population groups, including older adults.
