Overview

Alec joined Cardiff Met’s School of Sport and Health Sciences in 2023, following the completion of his PhD in Kinesiology – Physical Culture and Sport Studies in 2022 from the University of Texas at Austin (USA). Prior to joining Cardiff Met, Alec worked as an adjunct faculty in the Sport Management department at St. John Fisher University (Rochester, NY, USA). Alec’s teaching focuses on research methods, design, and practice as well as the humanities in the sport industry (history, sociology, and governance). On the research front, his areas of interest include sport, identity, and access through history, sociology, urban studies, media, and international relations.

Aside from academia Alec enjoys a mix of American and European sporting traditions. He has a passion for rowing and has spent the last twenty years as a competitor and coach across the United States and plans to continue doing so in Wales.
