Sport Facilities

Our specialist sport and academic facilities at the Cyncoed campus will enable you to gain practical experiences that prepare you for your future career.

Cardiff Met Sport offers state-of-the-art training facilities, performance analysis labs, strength and conditioning suites, and sport rehabilitation clinics, providing hands-on experience in a professional environment.

Biomechanics Department

Located within the National Indoor Athletics Centre, the Biomechanics Department features cutting-edge research facilities with state-of-the-art technology. It includes a dedicated lab space, two data collection areas, and a hybrid analysis suite supporting advanced sport science research.

Performance Analysis Lab

The Performance Analysis Lab is a world-leading facility with five computer labs equipped with high-performance PC and Mac systems, featuring advanced video editing tools. The Cyncoed campus also includes an outdoor IP camera network for enhanced video capture processes.

Physiology Lab

The Physiology Lab consists of two teaching labs equipped for sport-specific assessments, including running, cycling, swimming, and rowing. These facilities provide hands-on experience with specialist sports science equipment to enhance practical learning.

Physiology Research Lab

The Physiology Research Lab supports a wide range of staff and student research activities. Final-year undergraduate students gain experience with advanced exercise physiology equipment during independent research projects, with opportunities to engage in ongoing postgraduate and staff research.

Rehabilitation & Conditioning Gym

This gym area is divided into two sections: one equipped for upper body strength development with weightlifting benches and racks, and another open space designated for warm-ups and rehabilitation practical sessions.

SCRAM Gym

SCRAM Gym is equipped with cardiovascular equipment, machine weights, rehabilitation cages, and three dumbbell benches. This facility is utilized for both gym instructor and rehabilitation practicals.

SCRAM Research Lab

The SCRAM Research Laboratory enables in-depth analysis of athletic performance. The facility supports researcher groups, such as Youth Physical Development (YPD), in assessing athletes' strength and power qualities. It also aids practitioners in evaluating muscular performance within rehabilitative settings. Equipment includes motion capture Vicon Nexus and Kistler force plates.

Strength & Power Gym

The Strength and Power gym features 14 weightlifting platforms with integrated squat racks, enabling students to practice key lifts and enhance their coaching skills.

Sport Broadcast and Media Suite

The Sport Broadcast and Media Suite features a sound-proofed TV studio equipped with lights, cameras, a green screen, and a virtual set. It also includes a TV gallery with a TriCaster operating system, a master edit station, and a sound-proofed self-operated radio studio with podcast and audio recording equipment.

Sports Massage Teaching Room

Located on the first floor of the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC), the Sports Massage teaching rooms are fully equipped to deliver both practical and theoretical components of sports massage, providing an excellent learning environment.
