PDR is a design and innovation research institution set up by Cardiff Metropolitan University in 1994. Since then we have developed a world-wide reputation based on our ability to develop new knowledge in product design and development, and to apply and transfer such knowledge within both academia and industry.
PDR is now ranked as the leading design centre in the UK as well as one of the top 25 globally by the prestigious iF World Design Index, and it has over 50 major international design awards for its work with industry.
The research institute is concerned with the effective use of design as a tool for innovation in the private and public sectors. We lead and collaborate on projects funded by AHRC and other UKRI programmes, various EC programmes, charities, industry, and government. We collaborate with other academic partners, industry, the public sector and governments to examine and improve policy, management and practice related to product and service design.
