Cardiff Met Uni and Students’ Union win mental health and wellbeing award

Cardiff Met Students’ Union and Cardiff Metropolitan University have been awarded the Outstanding Impact in Education award at the Mental Health and Wellbeing Wales Awards 2024.

The awards reward and recognise individuals and companies who go above and beyond to put the wellbeing of others first. Cardiff Met and the Cardiff Met Students’ Union (SU) were jointly awarded the Outstanding Impact in Education category for their collaborative work on harm reduction.



Dan Flaherty, Student President at Cardiff Met SU collected the award ceremony at The Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.

Dan said: “This national recognition for our partnership work with the University reflects our commitment as an SU to supporting the wellbeing of our members. The award is testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students, who strive to make Cardiff Met a place where everyone can thrive.”

Cardiff Met SU and Cardiff Met Uni received the Outstanding Impact Award for their work on harm reduction and the support and education provided to students on the effects and risks associated with drug and alcohol use.

Neil Davies, Head of Student Wellbeing at Cardiff Metropolitan University, said:“This award acknowledges the collaborative work the University and the SU have been doing over the last two years to prioritise mental health and wellbeing and ensure a supportive environment for all students and staff.

“As Cardiff Met continues to drive forward student wellbeing, this dual recognition marks a significant step forward in creating a healthier and more supportive university experience for all.”
