Staff Overview

Dr Lana St Leger is an early career researcher and Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management at Cardiff School of Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Prior to joining the Department for Marketing and Strategy in 2022, she worked as a Lecturer in Sport Management at Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and at the University of Bath within the Department for Health, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Lana completed her Ph.D. in 2020 which investigated the role of community sport in encouraging the use of the Welsh language among young people beyond the school gate, funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.

Lana’s research interests focus on four main areas: Sociolinguistics and Anthropological Linguistics, Community Studies, the Well-being of the Future Generations, and Policy and Practice.

Teaching

​​Lana delivers on a range of modules on both the undergraduate and post graduate and has several years of learning and teaching experience in management and strategy.

Lana is currently teaching on the following modules:

  • Strategic Management (MBA Level 7 and BA Level 6)
  • Business in A Global Context (BA Level 4)
  • Business Solutions and Transformation MSc Level 7)
  • In Search of Creativity, Innovation and Difference (MSc Level 7)

She is also the Module leader for Business in Action (BA Level 5)

Research

Lana’s research interests focus on four main areas: Sociolinguistics and Anthropological Linguistics (Welsh language and other minority languages), Community Studies (including sport, indigenous communities), the Well-being of the Future Generations, and Policy and Practice.

Current Projects

When the street talks: A case study of the impact of climate change on communities in Wales. This project focuses on building preliminary research which explores the importance of recognising protection and preservation of languages for the future generations, specifically considering the impact of climate change upon minority language communities, culture, and heritage.

Rhwydwaith Ymarferwyr-Ymchwilwyr Crefft Ymladd Cymru: The Wales Martial Arts Practitioner-Researcher Network. Building resilience and wellbeing during times of loneliness: a toolkit from the martial arts.
