Funding your time abroad
As a Cardiff Met student, you’re eligible to apply for several different funding options to support your trip overseas.
Like our £500 GO Global Bursary, which can pay towards travel and placement fees for opportunities lasting one to seven weeks.
If you’re accepted onto a study or traineeship placement through Taith, you’ll get funding towards the general cost of living, as well as a travel grant.
You will also receive financial aid if you secure a placement on the Turing Scheme. The amount of funding varies depending on the destination and how long your placements is.

With our study abroad programmes, you can live like a local, make lifelong friends and deepen your knowledge of a subject – or explore a topic you always wanted to learn more about.
You have many options for where you can go and how long you can stay. You can take part in an opportunity as part of your course (during your second year).
Or you can apply for a placement on the Turing Scheme, a UK government programme that supports the life-changing experience of studying abroad. There are also opportunities via the Taith scheme, Wales’s international learning exchange programme. Some of these are one week long, while others last 12 months.
You can also arrange a semester abroad at one of our partner universities in Canada, New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland or the United States.
Having a hard time making a decision? Our Global Opportunities team can help you narrow down your options and find the most rewarding one for you.
Interning overseas can make your CV stand out, help you build international networks and allow you to discover a brand-new culture.
You can take part in a work exchange placement in your first or second year, or as a Cardiff Met graduate.
We offer programmes – such as the Turing Scheme or Taith scheme – in a broad range of career fields, lasting anywhere from two weeks to 12 months, with various start dates throughout the year.
You can also create your own opportunities with any of our partner universities throughout Europe - you’ll just need to discuss the details with us beforehand.
Want to go further afield? You can work in Japan or at various locations in the United States through the JENZA programme – to name a few.
