I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University (then UWIC) in 1998 following an enjoyable primary school teaching career in South Wales. Initial responsibilities included the teaching, direction and development of Language and Literacy in Initial Teacher Education and Training (ITET) programmes including the BA (Hons) Primary and the PGCE Primary. I completed my MA in Education in 1999 and went on to become Year Tutor for Year One (2002-2004) and, later, Year Three (2004-2008) of the BA Primary Programme before taking on the role of Learning, Teaching and Assessment Coordinator for the School (2008-2010). In 2003 I was pleased to receive one of the first UWIC Teaching Fellowships for work on a project linked to study skills and support
Currently, I am Deputy Head of the Department of Initial Teacher Education (DITE), Chair of the Equality, Safeguarding and Wellbeing Steering Group and a member of the Learning and Teaching Management Group for the South East Wales Centre for Teacher Education and Training. In addition, I lead literacy across DITE and am responsible for Child Protection and the Protection of Vulnerable Adults across the School.
