Profile

I graduated from Gwent College of Higher Education in 1991 with a B.Ed (Hons) degree in Primary Education specialising in Mathematics. In 1998 I successfully completed a MSc in Education Management at the University of Glamorgan. I have also achieved the National Professional Qualification for Headship. I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University having been in primary education for thirteen years as both a class teacher and Deputy Head Teacher. I was initially seconded to Cardiff Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics for one year in 2004 and then became a permanent member of staff in 2005, lecturing in both primary Mathematics and Education. At the beginning of the 2005-2006 academic year I took up the position of PGCE Primary Programme Director and remained in this position for 11 years. In 2014 I was appointed as a Principal Lecturer and held this position for two years. Since September 2017 I have been Programme Director of the BA(Hons) Early Childhood Studies with Early Years Practitioner Status programme. I completed my PhD in 2021 which focussed on Key Stage 2 pupils' perceptions of how ICT can help them to learn in primary mathematics. My research interests lie in the areas of primary mathematics, ICT and Early Years Education and practice.
