STUDY IN WELSH

At Cardiff Metropolitan University we provide many varied and unique opportunities to study Initial Teacher Education (ITE) through the medium of Welsh. The lectures are delivered by our enthusiastic staff who are highly experienced in their specialist fields. With our flexible and varied courses it is possible to follow your course entirely or partly through the medium of Welsh. Cardiff Met is keen to help and support our students to develop their language skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

WHY STUDY THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF WELSH AT CARDIFF MET?

Welsh will feature prominently in the new curriculum which is to start in Welsh- medium schools and also in English- medium schools in 2022. With an ITE qualification from Cardiff Met University it will be possible to apply for jobs in both sectors, therefore a great opportunity for future jobs especially with the growth of Welsh medium schools.

The Welsh ITE community at Cardiff Met is close and we are proud of the support that we provide to our student. Our teaching groups are small and because of this there is support available both academically and in terms of student wellbeing.

At Cardiff Met we welcome students with a diverse language background. Each student is given 25 hours to support and refine their language skills to build confidence.

In addition, our Pontio group is a new scheme that is especially designed for students who are less confident in their Welsh but who want to strengthen the language and use it in the classroom.

PROFIAD MYFYRWYR A GRADDEDIGION

From factory worker to Secondary PGCE. Becoming an English teacher at Cardiff Met
Fy nhaith mewn i addysgu. Fy mhrofiad ar y cwrs TAR Cynradd eleni.

“Dewisais Brifysgol Met Caerdydd oherwydd ei fod yn caniatáu i mi barhau â’m haddysg trwy gyfrwng Cymraeg. Gyda’r meintiau grwpiau llai, llwyddais i ddatblygu perthynas agos gyda fy mentoriaid prifysgol ac roedd y profiad yn un cadarnhaol.”

Astudio Addysg Gynradd gyda SAC drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg: Fy mhrofiad mor belled ar y cwrs

“O’r dechrau, rydw i wedi bod yn awyddus i gwblhau fy lleoliad mewn Ysgol Gymraeg. Mae’r gymuned Gymreig, er ei bod yn ehangu, yn fach ac mae hyn yn rhoi awyrgylch gyfeillgar a chroesawgar. O fy mhrofiad i mae athrawon yn awyddus i gefnogi a chynghori mewn unrhyw ffordd bosibl.”

Fy mhrofiad blwyddyn gyntaf ar y cwrs Addysg Gynradd gyda SAC

“OMae astudio drwy’r Gymraeg yn beth gwych, a dwi wrth fy modd yn cael y wybodaeth i gyd yn ddwyieithog. Un o’r pethau gorau yw’r perthnasau agos sydd yn cael ei ffurfio gyda’r tiwtoriaid a hefyd gyda myfyrwyr eraill.”

Fy nhaith mewn i addysgu. Pam penderfynu newid gyrfa ac astudio’r cwrs TAR Cynradd.

“Un fantais o wneud y cwrs drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg yw’r cymorth a’r ddeialog gyson a gewch â thiwtoriaid personol y brifysgol, megis Sioned Dafydd a Kris Sobol, yn ogystal â sesiynau Gloywi Iaith reolaidd i gyfoethogi a datblygu myfyrwyr wrth ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg yn yr ystafell ddosbarth.”

“Fe wnes i basio fy TAR Uwchradd mewn Dylunio a Thechnoleg yn swyddogol trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg ac ni allwn fod yn fwy balch ohonof fy hun. Mae hyn yn gyflawniad enfawr i mi a dwi mor falch i fod yr unig athro Dylunio a Thechnoleg sy’n siarad Cymraeg i ddod allan o Brifysgolion De Cymru eleni.”

“Y prif reswm pam nes i benderfynnu dewis Met Caerdydd oedd y siawns i allu parhau fy addysg drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg a hefyd byw ym mhrif ddinas Cymru. Roeddwn i’n sicr fy mod am wneud y cwrs TAR trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg oherwydd gwnes i ran fwyaf o fy addysg yn y Gymraeg.”
