The Preparing to Teach in PCET course stands as a programme in its own right and can also form part one of a three-part qualification that leads to the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education / Professional Certificate in Education in PCET. The Preparing to Teach in PCET programme is a part-time course of study that aims to provide you with the skills, knowledge, support and encouragement to teach learners in the post 16 or 14-19 sector.

It has been devised to meet the minimum requirements expected of those teaching / training in the post-compulsory sector of education and training. The course is mapped to the new ETF standards for teaching.

Applicants wishing to enrol onto the course will need a Level 3 award / qualification in the subject that they are intending to teach (normally, the qualification would need to be Level 3). Please contact the Programme Director if you are unsure of the level of your qualification.

Assessment will provide the opportunity for you to gain objective and constructive feedback relating to your performance and progress. Full support will be given to undertake this assessment.

The module is formally assessed, and students will be required to:

  1. Plan, deliver and evaluate a micro-teaching session to his / her peer group. This will consist of a 20-minute teaching session in a subject of their choice. Students will be required to apply the principles of adult learning to this assessment.
  2. Complete a written assignment relating to the Principles of Adult Learning.

Applications for this course should be made directly to the University. Please click here for the online form, and you will need to enter Preparing to Teach in the New Programme Title section.
