Squad Groups
As children progress through the club, they may be invited to attend a squad group. These groups provide more specific training, preparing the children to compete in competitions for the club. These groups also follow a run, jump, throw programme, however, start to introduce the rules of competition and how to compete independently. Children in our squad groups are expected to compete for the club and must have up to date Cardiff Archers Athletics and Welsh Athletics memberships.
Specialist Groups
We do recognise that sometimes children enjoy a specific event group and therefore from school year 6 upwards we offer event-specialist groups. Most children in these groups do so as a second session and maintain doing a run, jump, throw group in addition. Children in our event-specific groups are expected to compete for the club and must have up to date Cardiff Archers Athletics and Welsh Athletics memberships.
Development Groups
As the children grow older and show promise that they may be able to compete at a Welsh national level, they may be invited to join a development group. In these groups we currently have numerous Junior Welsh Internationals as well medallists from UK Championships, as well as GB Junior Internationals. All Cardiff Archers Athletics athletes in the Development groups are expected to compete for the club and must have up to date Cardiff Archers Athletics and Welsh Athletics memberships.
Squad and specialist sessions run every weekday evening between 4.30pm and 6.30pm with sessions 1 hour in duration, typically following Cardiff Schools term dates. Development Groups run between 5.00pm and 8.00pm with many of these sessions starting at 6.30pm. These sessions are 1.5 hours in duration, with the term typically following the Cardiff Schools Term dates. For all our competitive athletes, pay and play sessions are held outside of term time so that athletes can continue to prepare for competitions year-round.
