Explore the ways we can support you with your career when you join Cardiff Met.
When choosing a university and degree course, we understand how important it is to feel confident that your choice will lead to good future prospects.
That’s why our Careers Service is committed to developing highly employable and industry ready graduates.
How We Can Help
While having a degree is important, a degree on its own is often not enough for an increasingly competitive graduate market.
Students need to demonstrate that they have developed their knowledge, skills and experience by engaging in activities outside of their studies.
You may have some career ideas in mind, or you may have no idea at all. Before you can begin to focus and make decisions, it’s a good idea to spend some time investigating them further. We can help with that!
Shape Your Future: develop key employability skills
Most job descriptions include a specific list of skills, attributes and strengths that are needed for the role. You have the opportunity to develop these skills during your studies, so you can be work-ready before you even graduate.
Whether you’re in the early stages of thinking about your career, have some ideas but can’t get started, or need help applying for your dream job, we are here to help.
Our Shape Your Future platform is a one-stop-shop for access to activities and resources that will help you develop key employability skills that demonstrate to employers that you’re ready for the world of work.
Widening Success
Some students come from less advantaged backgrounds and/or groups under-represented in society.
Too often, these students face additional barriers to securing professional employment after university.
Our team of experienced Careers Coaches are committed to helping under-represented students enhance their employability skills while at university so that they can compete for quality, sustainable jobs after graduation.
This support could include:
- career exploration and planning
- job search
- employability skills development
- securing work experience
- applying for opportunities
- preparing for interviews
- confidence building and self-evaluation
Your progress will be regularly reviewed in 1:1 meetings with your coach and the support adapted as you develop and your confidence improves.
