Staff Overview

I am currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Data Science. Previously, I worked as a Senior Lecturer in Banking and Finance with Cardiff School of Management for nearly 5 years. Also, I worked as a Lecturer with Curtin University in Australia and Malaysia for nearly 14 years. I completed my PhD in Finance with Curtin University in Australia. Part of my thesis has been commissioned by the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (APRA) under the APRA Research Grant Program. I am a key member of the EUREKA Robotics Lab. I am leading a JD Maths Tutor research project to explore how a JD humanoid robot can help school children in learning maths. I am also focusing on research in algorithmic trading and processing real-time data such as share and currency prices using a machine learning-based approach. To date, I have published several peer-reviewed journal articles and international conference papers. Also, I have received research funding to carry out some research projects.

Teaching

I have 20 years of university teaching experience. My role as a senior lecturer is evidenced by leading financial mathematical modules namely Quantitative Finance (Level 7), Corporate Finance and Risk (Level 7), Finance of International Business (Level 7), Intermediate Applied Econometrics (Level 6) and Application of Numeracy (Level 3) at Cardiff School of Management. I have also taught Research Methods for Technologies (Level 7), Math for Computing (Level 4), and Computer Thinking (Level 4) at Cardiff School of Technologies. I am also a key member in the Bloomberg suite and uses my Bloomberg skills and knowledge to design, develop and deliver my teaching modules. In addition, I am a Fellow of Higher Academy Education (UK).

Research

My current research focuses on Robotics in Education. I am leading a JD Maths Tutor project that consists of a group of Robotics researchers and students. The project explores how a JD humanoid robot can help school children in learning maths so that the school children have a personal interaction with robots in a classroom environment. I am also conducting research seminars to support staffs and students in designing and developing mathematical and computational modelling for Robotics.

I am always interested in leading research for data analytics in the field of banking, finance and accounting. I am focusing on research in algorithmic trading and processing real-time data such as share and currency prices using a machine learning-based approach.

I am very proficient in R, Python, Eviews and good working knowledge in Tableau and SAS. I have designed and conducted two 5-day R training workshops at the University of Economics, University of Danang in Vietnam in 2019, and Curtin University in Malaysia in 2018.
