Student Coaches are current Technologies students who provide academic and mentoring support to students on programmes delivered at the Cardiff School of Technologies (CST). This network of coaches has helped build our community, giving students a go-to person who is always approachable and who can offer relevant advice based on their experiences within the school.
Our coaches are available Monday to Friday in our communal study and social spaces like
Nexus. They are easy to spot in their bright yellow t-shirts and navy hoodies.
Hear from our student coaches:
"I have really enjoyed my time as a student coach. Being able to help fellow students with queries and helping with coursework is really fulfilling. Earning a side income while studying has been a great help too! As well as the fulfilling nature of the job, meeting and getting to know more of my peers from the School of Technologies and being able to work alongside them has been another gift in itself. Working in this role has been a great experience overall and I would recommend it to anyone who has a passion for helping others and is looking for a job that fits around their studies."

"I became a student coach as I am passionate about helping people and improving the university experience within the School of Technologies. This role allows me to have an impact while easily fitting the hours around my studies. Within my role I help students with signposting and support with academic issues, as well as working with the university to run events such as movie nights and women in tech evenings. Student coaching allows students to get advice from their peers which is useful as we have been in their position so are able to give more tailored advice. There is also the advantage of being readily available to the students whenever they need within the communal areas of CST.”

“Being a student coach has given me the opportunity to help others in their studies while gaining skills and experiences that can be used in my future career. The role of student coach is vital within CST as it allows students to constantly have someone there to help them. As we are students ourselves it makes us less intimidating to approach, we also offer more relevant advice as we’ve gone through the same experiences from previous years.”

"As a student coach, I am driven by the desire to impact students’ lives positively, from offering academic guidance to career advice, and even emotional support. My experience of one-on-one mentoring has been very rewarding, allowing me to understand the unique needs and challenges of postgrad students. I think that the student coach role enriches the student experience by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. It also contributes to CST's continuous improvement through feedback on teaching strategies and support services. My proactive approach in addressing academic concerns has been crucial in positively influencing students' educational journeys."

"Becoming a student coach allowed me to gain experience in multiple roles, for example teaching and mentoring my fellow students. This has allowed me to develop skills and has helped me to figure out what sort of role I would like to go into in future!"
