Research

My research interests are on predatory bacteria and their applications in therapeutic models of infectious diseases. Major areas of my studies involve isolation of Myxobacteria from various environmental sources studying their phylogenetic and predatory/killing activities against pathogenic microbes using the cutting-edge omics technology and conventional assays. Further, to investigate the application of these predatory bacteria in infection models such as In vitro, Ex vivo or In vivo models with the aim of translational research is the broader outlook.

More recently I have expanded my research interests into Fusobacterium necrophorum, an under-studied and under-diagnosed pathogen. Using the omics approach to study the virulome and extrapolate the inferences using In-vitro or Ex-vivo models with an aim of investigating the pathogenesis and host pathogen relationships is the focus of this study. I characterise Fusobacterium necrophorum isolates of respiratory and other systemic sources in view of looking for marker genes/proteins which can be used in diagnostic clinical microbiology.
