Matthew joined the School in September 2016 as a part time Lecturer in Sport Management and Development. He has over twenty years of work experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors in England and Wales, including a variety of senior roles in sports development and sports management.
Matthew previously worked in Higher Education with the Leisure Management Department at Sheffield University from 2002-2007 and also lectures in Sport Management at the University of Wales Trinity St David.
Research Interests
Matthew’s main research interests are volunteers in sports clubs and the management of sports clubs run by volunteers. Matthew is currently involved with an Erasmus+ funded study of volunteering and social inclusion in sport, which is comparing knowledge across ten EU member states. Matthew has previously worked on a national survey of sports volunteering in England (2002) and a study of volunteering in netball (2006).

Matthew has built an extensive network through his career to date and works with a variety of external bodies including Sport Wales, local authorities, and national governing bodies of sport. Matthew volunteers as a Mentor with the UK sport for development charity Sported, and as a cross country marshal for Welsh Athletics. Matthew is a member of the Chartered Institute for Sport and Recreation Management (CIMSPA).
