Jane contributes to the Sport and Physical Education (Dance) pathway with a wealth of experience working within the Welsh Dance Industry working as performer /choreographer/teacher.
She has worked within dance and arts organisations, creating opportunities for dance participation & performance in both community and educational settings . Collaborating with dance and arts practitioners from theatre, music and the visual arts to include Welsh National Opera, BBC Orchestra Wales, The Performing Rights Society, South Wales Intercultural Arts & Cardiff Bay Arts Trust.
Research / Publications
A Member of the school of sport and health sciences 'Applied Physical Education and Health' research group :
Generally interested in exploring the contribution of dance as a physical activity to the areas of health /wellbeing by developing dance participation opportunities within Mental Health .
Interested in the development of pedagogical approaches to Dance in Education and has initiated several performance based projects : 'Water babies Project', explored the link between dance and science in partnership with The National Museum of Wales , and the Countryside Council for Wales. 'Move A Book', a participatory performance project for children aged between 3 – 7 links dance to the national curriculum literacy and numeracy framework.
Since qualifying as a sports masseur Jane has developed an approach to learning focusing on the Healthy Dancer and healthy dance practice, in line with current practice and development in Dance Science. She continues to explore ways of enabling the student dancer to be more informed about anatomy & physiology of the dancing body, through a variety of experiential pedagogical approaches.
Currently exploring the role of Yoga as a somatic practice within the study of Dance within Higher education
Teaching and Supervision
Jane contributes across several modules in the school focusing on the areas of Pedagogy, Healthy Dance Practice & Choreography . • Contributes to student support as a Personal tutor. • Active in the Development of dance based projects focusing on widening access to study at university, collaborating with the university First Campus unit and providing access to work based learning opportunities for students. /
