Profile

Dr Payne is a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology and the Pathway Lead for the Doctorate in Applied Forensic Psychology at Cardiff Metropolitan University.​ She is a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Forensic Psychologist and Chartered Forensic Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. She is a Full Member of the BPS Division of Forensic Psychology (DFP) and Associate Fellow of the BPS. Dr Payne also holds a sessional appointment with the Ministry of Justice (HM Courts and Tribunal Service). Dr Payne's background is as a practitioner forensic psychologist, with particular expertise in violence risk assessment and consultancy during serious prison incidents. Her research interests include: farm animal work and its rehabilitative benefits for people with offending histories; vulnerability to County Lines exploitation; the assessment and management of institutional violence; offence related PTSD and hostage / crisis negotiation in both community and prison settings.​
