The International Training Centre (ITC) was officially opened at Cardiff Metropolitan University on April 20th 2012 as a collaboration between Cardiff Metropolitan University, the Health Protection Agency's WHO Collaborating Centre (now part of Public Health England), G7+ Mexico's Global Health Security Action Group, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Public Health Wales.
It is the first training facility of its kind and unique to Wales. Activities at the new centre include research, training and the delivery of both academic and community training programmes. There will be a focus on enhancing planning and preparedness for major chemical incidents, and this will include everything from hazard identification to risk assessment and prioritisation, risk mitigation, emergency planning and response and recovery.
The ITC will also host a series of teaching and training materials on topical subjects for the global market, in addition to providing the foundation for the development of e-learning programmes
The official launch attracted attendees from across the World, with delegates representing a number of organisations, including Welsh Government, Department of Health, WHO and G7+Mexico. This will help to showcase Wales as a beacon of excellence for health protection teaching and training.
