I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University as Senior Lecturer in Secondary science education as a Physics specialist in September 2015. A teacher of over 20 years experience, I have taught in three Local Authorities, holding posts as Science Advisory teacher, Head of Science, CASE coordinator and teacher of physics and science. I graduated from University College Swansea in 1994 with a PhD in Physics and completed my PGCE at Swansea immediately after.
In addition to my work at Cardiff Metropolitan University, I am PGCE tutor for Science for the Open University, External mentor for Induction of NQTs and Masters in Educational Practice. I offer advice as a consultant on effective pedagogy, science curriculum and skills development and am at home coaching and working with teachers working in the classroom as well as leading INSET. As an OFQUAL Science expert, I am involved in reviewing the science curriculum and participating in comparative studies for GCSE and A level qualifications.
My interest in Thinking Skills and Assessment for learning was sparked through CASE (Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education) and my subsequent work on this with King's College London.
