Staff Overview

​Vibhushinie Bentotahewa is a Lecturer in Computer Science and or Games Development, Programme Director for BSc Computer Security. She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in International Relations from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2017; followed by a Masters of Arts (MA) in Security, Intelligence and Diplomacy awarded by the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom, in 2018. She completed her PhD, titled ‘A Framework for Acceptance and Implementation of Global Data Privacy and Security Policies by States (A Case Study of Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom)’, at Cardiff Metropolitan University, in February 2022. During the course of her PhD study, she acted as an Associate Tutor in the School of Technologies. She has also published a series of publications covering her research interests in Data Security, Data Protection, Personal privacy, Data Protection legislation, and Policy development. She was also awarded the student of the year 2019/2020 by the Charted Institute of Information Security, in 2020.

Teaching

​She is the module leader for both Threats and Attacks (2022- Term 1) and Information and Risks (2022- Term 2).

In her role as an Associate Tutor, she has conducted tutorial classes for BSc and MSc students in the following modules:

Threats and attacks (2019), Architecture and Opertation Systems (2020), Principles of Programming (2020), Research Methods for Technology Dissertation (2020), Teams software development (2020) and Information Security (2019,2020,2021)

Research

​Vibhushinie Bentotahewa has worked as a research assistant in the Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) project. The key aims of the project was to identify the current trends and opportunities in sectors such as Creative, Cyber, Fintec, Medtec and Semiconductors.

  • The President of the first Welsh/UK WiCyS student chapter (2021- 2022)
  • The School Liaison Officer for the Digital Technology Learning Support Network (DTLSN) (February 2022- June 2022)
  • PhD Tutor at the Brilliant club (2019-2022); whist delivering workshop sessions to the Key stage 4 students, she developed the course handbook titled, ‘Has cyber space overtaken other domains of warfare’.
  • Developed the Digital etiquette course content for the Global Opportunities department at Cardiff Metropolitan University (2021)
  • Quality Assurer at the Oak National Academy (2020) and helped review the teaching materials produced by the teachers
