Free university short courses available at Cardiff Met Summer School

News | 21 May 2024

Cardiff Met’s Summer School returns for another year, providing adult learners free short courses at Cardiff Metropolitan University in June 2024.

With a variety of 30 courses ranging from, but not limited to, access to teaching, print design, coding and psychology, our Summer School is designed for those who have had limited access to higher education. All classes will be held at Cardiff Met’s Llandaff Campus from 10-21 June 2024, providing learners with an opportunity to experience our campus and facilities and to get a taste of what life as a university student might be like.

Caitlin Woodland, Widening Access Manager, said: “The Cardiff Met Summer School, in collaboration with Reaching Wider, gives adult learners the opportunity to try a range of interesting and engaging learning opportunities, free of charge. The courses focus on giving adults a fun, empowering, and inspiring experience.

“The programme was set up over 15 years ago to help learners who may not have yet had access to higher education for a number of reasons. In that time, we’ve seen countless adult learners use the courses as a springboard into their formal learning journey and I’m really excited to see even more learners go through that transition this year.”

Andrea Morris attended last year’s Summer School: “I was really excited to get on the course and I found it gave me confidence, skills and also helped immensely with my mental health to be with other people just to chat to new people, to learn new things and gain skills.”

The Cardiff Met Summer School is open to all adult learners over the age of 18, however, priority is given to people who meet certain criteria, including those living in areas of low engagement on low incomes, facing in-work poverty, or individuals who are full-time unpaid carers or care leavers.

Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Widening Access Team aims to ensure that people of any age, background or ethnic group are given a fair and equal opportunity to access Higher Education.

Further information on the courses available and how to sign up is available on the Cardiff Metropolitan website.
