Gareth Rees, a Cardiff Metropolitan University graduate of the International Hotel and Hospitality Management programme, has been named one of the 30 best young hospitality talents to watch under the age of 30. This prestigious recognition was awarded at the 2024 Acorn Awards, an event renowned for celebrating the most promising up-and-coming professionals in the hospitality industry.
The Acorn Awards, organised by The Caterer, is in its 38th year and continues to spotlight exceptional talent within the hospitality sector. Winners are nominated by their peers and are selected for their remarkable achievements and contributions to the industry. This year’s winners gathered last month for a celebratory weekend at the Belfry Hotel & Resort in Sutton Coldfield, the venue for the British Masters golf tournament.
Gareth Rees's inclusion in this esteemed group highlights his exceptional contributions and potential in the hospitality industry. His dedication and achievements reflect the high standards and quality of education provided by Cardiff Met.
Upon winning, Gareth said: “I recall flicking through The Caterer while at university at Cardiff Met and reading about Acorn Winners and how they excel not only in their role but also in their contribution to the wider industry. I can’t quite believe that I have now been given such a prestigious award and find myself among such amazing hospitality professionals.
“I am incredibly lucky to have gained such a solid foundation from Cardiff Met which allowed me to attain a Graduate Management Scheme and work my way up in the industry from there.”
Deputy Editor of The Caterer, Allister Richards praised this year's Acorn Award winners, saying: “The creativity, ambition, and energy of all the winners is a magnificent reminder of how exciting and full of opportunity our industry is. Early on in their hospitality careers, they have shown unbounded potential, remarkable ability, and vision. They’ve laid their claim as future hospitality leaders and influencers.”
