Staff Overview

Having obtained an LL.B. from The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, LLM in International Law from The University of Edinburgh and an M.A. in Philosophy from Arizona State University, Christoforos obtained his PhD in Law from King's College London on ‘Legitimacy as An Essentially Contested Concept’, which has been referred to widely: https://kclpure.kcl.ac.uk/ws/portalfiles/portal/134009100/2020_Ioannidis_Christoforos_0752187_ethesis.pdf 

Christoforos presented his work at numerous conferences. This included the International Academic Conference on Law and Politics in Istanbul, where he was awarded the Best Presentation Award; the Ontario Legal Philosophy Partnership Conference at McMaster University; the 11th Annual International Conference of Law in Athens; the International Institute of Social and Economic Sciences conferences in Antibes and Reykjavik in 2014; the University of Copenhagen Law Conference in 2015; the 10th International Graduate Legal Research Conference (IGLRC) at King’s College London in 2016; The Asian Conference on Social Sciences (ACSS) 2017, organized by The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) at Kobe, Japan where he was awarded the IAFOR Scholarship in 2017, and the Brunel University Law School on The Use of Force and International Law in 2023. 

Christoforos has also convened conferences in law and philosophy. In particular, he co-convened the 9th International Graduate Legal Research Conference (IGLRC). Later, he organised the Interdisciplinary Conference on Sovereignty ‘Conceptions of Sovereignty’ on the 17th May 2023, bringing keynote speaks from both academia, Dr Jorge Núñez from Manchester Metropolitan University who wrote extensively in the area, and politics, Dr Costas Mavrides, Member of the EU Parliament and Chair of the Political Committee of the Mediterranean:

Christoforos has published within his fields of research interest and expertise, namely Jurisprudence, International Law, Human Rights and Social & Political Philosophy. He is currently working on authority and will be presenting a draft paper ‘The Pseudo-problem of authority’ at the ‘Rule of Law, Justice, and The Future of Democracy’ IVR Conference in Seoul, Korea 7-12 July 2024.

Christoforos has an extensive experience in teaching. He has taught across a range of subjects both in undergraduate and postgraduate level including the MBA, including Jurisprudence and Social Theory, International Human Rights Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, EU Law, Equity & Trusts, International Commercial Law, International Trade Law, International Arbitration Law, Social Justice, Professional & Employability Skills, Business Law & Ethics, Fundamentals of Corporate Law and Legal Ethics, Commercial & Consumer Protection Law, as well as specialised English modules, such as English for Law and English for Business. In recognition of his contribution to teaching, Christoforos is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy with Queen Mary University School of Law since 2020.

Christoforos is engaged in supervision, administration, mediation and Moots. In particular, he has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate law students, as well as MBA students, he has acted as the Director of the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, supporting interdisciplinary research and debate in the area, and he has been the Coach of the Law Moots Team which he has led to the 13th Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Hong Kong, 6-13 March 2016. With an active interest in mediation, Christoforos has successfully completed the necessary training and has become an Associate Mediator of the Civil and Mediation Council.

Christoforos has been a reviewer of the International Journal of Social Sciences and a Lifetime Academic Member of the Philosophy Research Unit and Law Research Unit of the Athens Institute of Education and Research (ATINER) since 2014. He was an editor in Legal Theory of King’s Student Law Review (KSLR) (2013-2014), and the next year the Managing Editor, as well as the President of King’s College London Think Tank Law Policy Centre (2014 - 2015) and later a Junior Fellow of the Legal & Political Theory Think Tank Programme of the Global Research Network.​

Other Projects and activities

Christoforos is currently applying for the British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant regarding his research on sovereignty and is interested in research collaboration in International Law, Jurisprudence / Philosophy of Law / General Theory of Law, Human Rights and especially Human Rights Theory, as well as Social & Political Philosophy.
