Mental Health

When completing this project, you will gain vital soft skills, increase international experience and boost your employability. This is achieved through cultural immersion, collaboration and community-based initiatives. This project has been designed to promote positive mental health in rural areas of Bali, whilst giving you a transformational international experience that boosts employability, cultural fluency and develops global perspectives.

This is achieved by students working in cross-cultural, multidisciplinary teams to enhance specific and measurable community initiatives in a rural Balinese community, which support the wider aims of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students exchange skills and ideas with local professionals and learn more about wellness and global mental health, in the context of a different culture.

Cultural Immersion

You will live with a host family in a rural Balinese village, immersing into a completely different way of life whilst learning to be sensitive to local traditions and customs. Additional to this, cultural activities are included to give you an in-depth understanding of working and living abroad, such as visiting markets, cooking classes, wellness sessions including yoga and meditation and visits to sites of historic and cultural significance.

Promoting Positive Mental Health in Communities

You will implement activity sessions at various government initiatives, and schools, for children with specific needs as well as community outreach programs designed to keep elderly residents healthy. You will also be facilitating therapeutic activity sessions with community groups and teaching English within the community.

The project includes fascinating workshops from local academics and experts that expand the global perspectives of students in the areas of: mental health, sustainable development and global health.
