Professional Aromatherapy Training Course / Continuing Education Award in Aromatherapy

Course Content

Course Content
The Cardiff Met Centre for Complementary Healthcare, offers 3 professionally accredited and recognised training pathways:

  • Holistic Massage
  • Clinical Reflexology
  • Clinical Aromatherapy

We are a centre of excellence for the provision of education and training in Complementary Healthcare.

The Centre is fully equipped with audio visual and other teaching aides, the latest electric hydraulic massage couches, portable couches, massage chairs and 12 curtained cubicles.

In keeping with the House of Lords Select Committee Report on Complementary and Alternative Medicine in 2000, which highlighted the need to increase the evidence base for therapies, all our programmes have a strong focus on research-based theory. All students are encouraged and supported to be research aware.

In addition to lectures, students are required to complete 60 hours of case studies for each pathway in their own time. The integration of research and therapy skills via the application of recognised data collection tools within these case studies is encouraged.

All students have access to the Cardiff Met library and IT facilities to support their learning.

Clinical Aromatherapy
Alongside practical skills for each therapy, students will study anatomy, physiology and pathology, introductory research skills and entrepreneurial skills for complementary therapists. There will also be an opportunity to work with clients within the university’s complementary healthcare clinic.

This suite of modules aims to develop in students the necessary knowledge, understanding and clinical skills for professional aromatherapy practice in accordance with the guidelines of the accrediting professional body: International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists.(IFPA) so that they may operate professionally, effectively, ethically and reflectively in the local, national and global market.

For a more detailed overview of the content for each module, please contact Julie Duffy by email jduffy@cardiffmet.ac.uk or book an online meeting.

Progression:

  • Successful completion of the all modules will enable the student to practice as an IFPA registered Aromatherapy Practitioner.
  • Following study of further credits at Levels 4 and 5, students may also apply to progress onto any of the Higher Education Pathways, including the BSc (Hons) Complementary Healthcare (with Practitioner Status).
