I joined the team at Cardiff Metropolitan University in May 2022 as a Senior Lecturer. My work spans the ITE programmes and Master’s programmes, alongside undertaking a Supervisor role and Independent Project Advisory role for PhD and EdD students. Within the local MA Education pathway I lead the ‘Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and Inclusion: Underpinning Principles’ module and teach across a number of other ALN, leadership and multiagency practice modules. Within our MA Education Wales programme, I have module leadership for ‘Leadership and Management of ALN’ and teach on the ‘ALN Excellence in Practice’ module.

My teaching career of 20 years focussed on ALN and for the 15 years prior to moving to HEI I developed and led the Autism Support Team, a team of Specialist Teachers for learners with ASD, as part of Cardiff Local Authority’s Inclusion Service. During that time I was involved in the development and implementation of a significant range of policies and reforms and developed a keen interest in this area. I am passionate about equity and social justice and how these issues are impacted by policy in education. In 2015 I decided to pursue my interest in policy in education and embarked on an EdD in Learning, Leadership and Policy with the University of Bristol. Within this EdD my research focus considered the education system as a complex organisation and explored how we might develop systems thinking to enable the system to learn. Since joining CMet I have worked with colleagues to establish and co-chair the Cardiff Education Social Justice Research Group.
