I joined the Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy in 2000 as a Lecturer in Music Education. During my time at Cardiff Metropolitan I have been a Year Tutor, Programme Director of BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS, Deputy Programme Director and later Programme Director of the PGCE Primary programme. I stepped down from the PGCE Primary Programme Director role in July 2019 to focus on my Professional Doctorate.
I am now Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education and Professional Learning and, when not studying for my doctorate, can be found lecturing on aspects of primary education, leading music workshops on primary teacher education programmes and also visiting schools to support student teachers and mentors.
My doctoral study investigates primary student teachers' perceptions of creative music pedagogies in schools and the implications of this for Initial Teacher Education.
I graduated with a BA in Music (1991) and a MMus (1994) from Reading University and later gained a PGCE Primary qualification at Trinity College Carmarthen (1996). I then became a classroom teacher and music co-ordinator in a primary school in the Vale of Glamorgan. From 1996-2003, I also worked as a part time tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in their Junior Conservatoire.
