Postgraduate, Research and Part-Time Students

As a postgraduate, research or part-time student, the tuition fees you are charged will depend on the course you choose to study. Certain programmes will also incur costs in addition to the course fee and this information is detailed within the Additional Course Costs page.

Please be aware – non-eligibility

You are not eligible for the PG Student Loan if you are transferring your previous credits using Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) or Accredited Prior Learning (APL) credits, or a top-up in relation to your course of study. (Please refer to our RPL web page for further information on Recognised Prior Learning.)

If you will be in receipt of an NHS bursary for your programme of study you will not be eligible to apply for a loan.

Also, please be aware that if during the application stage or after enrolling your student finance application is found to be ineligible, we are required to inform the SLC and your student loan may be withdrawn.

Teacher Training Grants (for PGCE Courses)

Government training grants may be available for PGCE Primary and certain PGCE Secondary subject areas. There is no need to apply for the grants as they are automatically attached to your place if you are eligible. Payment is paid on a termly basis (December, March and a double payment in June) in the year of your study. Research Scholarships and Funding

The University also offers a range of doctoral scholarships to help students undertaking research to finance their studies.

With regards to research loans, the PGL for England and Wales will be applicable for those studying a 2-year MPhil (full time) programme, however those studying an MPhil part time or MPhil leading to PhD will not be eligible. Doctoral loans for PhD students are now also available and further information about these can be found on the Student Finance web pages above.
