Lucy is a Senior Lecturer on the Sport PE and Health undergraduate programme with specialisms in Coach Development and Performance Sport. Lucy is also the Director of Basketball at Cardiff Met which is one of the highest profile sports within the University and one of the biggest and most inclusive basketball clubs in the UK. Lucy joined the School in 1999 as a Graduate Researcher and has since made a significant contribution to performance sport, coach education and curriculum development for basketball, both within the University and nationally. She founded the Cardiff Met Archers Basketball Club and Junior Academy which is now an internationally renowned club attracting students, players and staff from all over the world. It boasts top UK Women's teams in both the running and wheelchair games, including Olympic & Paralympic players and staff, whilst also pursuing a strong developmental strand providing experiential learning and employability skills for students, and engaging with the local community. Lucy is co-Chair of the Women in Sports Coaching group at Cardiff Met which aims to drive positive change for Women in Sports Coaching through advocacy, teaching & learning, and research & innovation. Lucy has combined and complemented her roles at Cardiff Met with a number of other leading roles within Coach Education and Performance Sport, including Team Manager for Great Britain Women's Basketball Team (including Team GB at London 2012), Coaching Manager and Performance Director for Basketball Wales, (first female) British Basketball Board Member, BUCS Basketball Wales rep, and Wales lead on the UK National Source Group and the UK Performance Management Group for Basketball.

Research / Publications

Lucy’s research and innovation interests are centred around coach education, workforce development, club development, and women’s experiences in sports coaching and leadership. Publications are predominantly National Governing Body materials and resources. Lucy was a key lead and editor in the 2011 Working Group which developed a new UK Basketball curriculum for the UK basketball community. This project produced a number of publications and resources including the British Basketball Areas of Emphasis: Guidelines for Coaches, and the Club Skills Guide, which have helped to shape training and development of basketball coaches and players in the UK. Lucy was the Wales lead on the development of the UK wide UKCC qualifications for basketball and continues to support the training for tutors delivering these qualifications. She currently sits on the Basketball England Coaching Technical Committee supporting the redevelopment of BE Coaching qualifications and workshops.

Lucy remains an Active player, Coach, mentor and Executive Coach at Cardiff Met Archers Basketball Club, regularly tutors and assesses Coaching qualifications, and delivers CPD workshops for basketball coaches. Lucy also has over 20 years experience dancing and teaching traditional latin dance. ​
