BA Textiles students have been honoured by a global industry-leading design company.
International Greetings UK, which is Europe’s biggest designer and producer of stationery and gift-wrap paper, has rewarded students who excelled in a 12-week ‘live’ design project.
International Greetings UK, which has offices in Hengoed, has the largest creative studio in Wales, working across surface pattern, design and reprographics. The global company holds a royal warrant and supplies gift wrap to Her Majesty the Queen and the royal households.
For the fifth consecutive year, Textiles staff and students collaborated with International Design’s head of Creative, Sarah Barker, to visit the production plant and design studio.
The cohort also worked directly with design consultants to produce card designs, gift-wrap and new product developments as part of the live project.
Prize winners Melissa McDonald, Daisy Norton, Lia Pritchard, Paige Strugnell and Vaida Zigmantaite each won £350 and an eight-week work experience placement.
Runners-up Paige Strugnell, Courtney Suller, Chloe Trew, Caroline Morgan and Jo White were each awarded £20 gift vouchers.
Principal Lecturer in Textiles, Dr Keireine Canavan, commented: “We are tremendously grateful to International Greetings, Sarah Barker and her design team for this generous, ‘live’ opportunity.
“Consultancy experiences are invaluable for students – they gain real working insights into the textile design and surface decoration industries, and it prepares them for employment after graduation.”
